Danna started feeling early labour while she was out celebrating New Years Eve with her husband Matt + their friends. After ringing in the New Year, they returned home where she continued labouring as planned, attempting to get rest in between growing surges. By morning when they were en route to drop their son off with family, and Danna had progressed to transition. Within half an hour of arriving at Abbotsford Regional Hospital, she fiercely delivered their second son via VBAC. I arrived to see mama snuggling skin to skin with her new baby, soaking up the sweet relief of finally holding him in her arms. Her husband and midwife beamed at her with love + pride, and she was glowing with exhausted bliss and the joy of an empowering birth.
After a few quiet hours together they were joined by family and their first son Greyson. He tenderly kissed + excitedly embraced his little brother. When his grandma unswaddled the new baby, big brother was right there to feel his soft skin and examine him. And when he high-fived mom before I left, well, you better believe my heart exploded.
It was such a joy to document this beautiful family as they all welcomed their newest addition. The room was overflowing with love from the moment I arrived, and I know that although their days will be deprived of sleep, their home will continue radiating so much love. Congratulations again to a wonderful family, you guys are amazing together.
