The day you give birth to your baby can be one of the most empowering experiences of your life. You change forever. A professional birth story artistically documents your journey, leaving a legacy for you and your family to treasure.
Your innate strength
At your most raw and vulnerable you are also your strongest, and there is nothing more beautiful than that.
“Birth is not about making babies. It’s about making mothers; strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and believe in their inner strength.” – Barbara Katz Rothman
Your partner
Your spouse and support team should be focused on holding space for you, not a camera. The experience is also emotional for your partner, and you can honour them by documenting their presence as they offer you loving support. Meeting your baby together for the first time is a moment worth preserving.
Professionalism + Quality
A professional birth photographer respects the sacred space of a birthing woman and navigates unobtrusively. Your story is documented from a “fly on the wall” perspective, capturing your journey as it unfolds naturally. Professional birth photographers are able to produce high quality images despite challenging lighting conditions, with a tasteful and artistic eye.
You won't regret it
As a parent you come to learn that the days are long, but the years are short. Preserve your moments of love, strength, pain, and joy with an emotionally charged collection of images and relive your most cherished memories. Because you don’t know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.
2. How far in advance should I book?
I accept 1-2 births per month so I recommend connecting early to ensure your EDD is available for booking. That being said, I do have last minute openings, so please don’t hesitate to contact me!
3. When do you arrive a birth?
Every birth is so different, but I aim to arrive when you’re in active labour; either 5-6cm dilated, or 2-3 minutes between contractions.
4. How long do you stay?
There is no time limit, I am with you until your baby is born + 2 hours postpartum. If you stall or have a really long labour, I will take a quick break for food or a nap in my car at a time deemed safe. I’m there till the end!
5. What if I have an emergency c-section?
It is my job to document your birth story, and c-sections are a part of that! If the hospital staff and your OB allow me into the operating room, I will be there with you! Know that it is your responsibility to advocate for wanting me there. If I am not allowed to join you, I will resume shooting as soon as dad and baby are together.
6. What if I'm having a scheduled C-Section?
Great! If your OB is willing to allow and advocate for my presence in the operating room, then I will be there! Know that hospital staff and the anesthesiologist may not allow my access, but with your OB on your side it can be easier to advocate for my presence. If I am not able to join you, I will resume shooting as soon as baby and dad are together.
If you know in advance that I will not be able to join you, I would recommend a Fresh 48 session. That way I can join you as soon as you are out of recovery to document your first precious moments together as a family.
7. When is my Birth Story delivered?
I deliver 2-3 sneak peeks within 48 hours of baby’s arrival. Your completed gallery of approximately 100 high resolution images is delivered within 6-8 weeks via online downloadable gallery.
8. Will my photos be graphic?
I am a modest artist who aims to tastefully document your journey. I recommend wearing a bra or bathing suit through labour to help achieve some modesty, but I am also in full support of a nude labouring mother! We will meet in advance to discuss the comfort levels of you and your partner, and work together to achieve the desired images!
9. Will you share images from my birth story on social media?
I completely respect the intimacy of a birth story, and if you want it to remain private I will absolutely honour that.
As an empowering birth advocate, I believe that sharing emotionally charged images of birth helps to normalize the process and eliminate stigmas. When women realize that they have options in birth, they hold the tools for an empowering experience. If you are open to sharing your birth story and empowering other women, I will happily navigate your boundaries for sharing on social media and my website.
